Our student’s story
Nothing gives us more joy than seeing our graduates succeed and do well in their chosen career.
We love to keep in touch and follow their journey.
Let’s chat with one of our graduated students Holly Bennett who started her floristry journey last year when she joined our Full-time class and completed her Certificate III in Floristry at The Flower School.
Since then, Holly has started her business Bennett Blooms Floristry which is based on Sunshine Coast.
Holly’s personality was always happy and warm, and we loved her energy in the classroom. You can see how her positive vibe has translated into her work and her joyful blooms.
Holly, what inspired you to become a florist?
My dream was to open my own cafe which would sell flowers. So, I decided why not learn how to make the flowers myself to have in the cafe! I ended up absolutely loving floristry and wanted to focus more so on weddings and events. I don’t even want the cafe anymore because I loved floristry!!
What was the best part about studying at The Flower School?
The people!! I loved every single one of my tutors. They were so helpful and flexible with each students needs and were simply just the kindest people. My classmates were all amazing as well! Was such a fun time every single lesson. I miss my days at the school a lot!
Tell us about your business BENNETT BLOOMS FLORISTRY?
I currently run my own business from my dining room table! I do florals for events, weddings, funerals and market style bunches to deliver. I have an Instagram, Facebook and email address that people use to contact me.
How did The Flower School help you to establish and grow your business?
I learnt a lot in The Flower School which set up my business for success. We learn how to draft quotes and invoices, how to price arrangements accordingly, colour theory and the practical side of making an arrangement. I learnt so much in the 6 months I was there and am still learning so much to this day!
What are your future plans?
I plan to continue with my business. I have a few weddings and events that I am doing florals for at the end of the year which I am eagerly looking forward to. I’m also working in a florist store which I love doing! Getting to interact with the customers in person and make something special on the spot for them is always so rewarding.
What advice would you give to someone who is considering to study floristry?
Do it!! It is so much fun, you learn so much, meet so many amazing people and get to enjoy beautiful flowers daily! There is a lot of early mornings, and the physical labour can be hard at times (lots of heavy buckets!!) but getting to bring joy to people in all different walks of life daily far outweighs the hard parts of the industry. Go for it, you’ll love it!
Holly completed Certificate III in Floristry in 2023 and you can see her beautiful work on Instagram – Bennett Blooms Floristry.
We wish Holly a successful business journey.
