EKKA 2017

We are very excited to promote floral competitions once again at ‘Ekka’ within the new Flower and Garden Exhibition hosted in the old museum precinct. This year the museum is celebrating 140 years.

The competitions are open to professional florists and floristry students studying Certificate II, III and IV in Floristry.

Beautiful displays, competitions, workshops, flower crowns, Industry education on flowers and plants grown in Queensland.

The first three categories in this competition, are open to professional florists and floristry students. The last category requires that you are a student, registered and attending a floristry training college at Cert II and IIl level which is a registered training organisation.

INSTRUCTIONS

Heirloom Chair Design

Friday 11th August Delivery by 4pm 10th Aug, for viewing and opening on Friday 11th August.

Design and decorate a chair seat
The theme is ‘heirloom blooms’, let your imagination go wild!

You will need to provide your antique, rustic chair, fresh flower & horticultural materials, sundries and accessories, for this design, 70% horticultural material & 30% sundries & accessories.

You will also need to provide a little writing (A4) behind your design, which will be displayed with your entry. (Including your name and business details)

Your chair will be displayed along with your business details in the Floral Display Area inside the old museum for public viewing.

Fresh flowers and horticultural materials must predominate. You will need to prepare off site in your time and deliver by 4.00pm Thurs 10th August day to the venue for the opening on Friday. Judging Friday morning winners announced mid-day.

What are Heirloom Flowers?  As they say in the fashion industry, what is old is new again! Growing heirloom plants, vegetable, fruits and flowers has become a gardening trend in recent years, as people are rediscovering the benefits. Heirloom (or antique) flowers are plants that have been open-pollinated and have origins dating back 50 years or more. Some varieties are centuries old! These are the same flowers your great-great-grandparents would have grown in their gardens. The beauty of these flowers is that they can be enjoyed for generations

Mystery Box 1 – ‘Poetry of Flowers’

 Wednesday 16th August 2017 2.30pm – 3.15pm on stage

Allocated time 45 minutes plus 10 minutes viewing and sorting.

 Horticultural materials, sundries and accessories from Koch & Co will be provided on the commencement of the competition.

Your creation will be displayed along with your business details in the Floral Display area inside The Old Museum for public viewing.

First Prize: Redlands Fresh Flowers Voucher valued at $125

Second Prize: A top quality floristry pruning knife + Australian native flower book valued at $80.00

Third Prize: Flower school apron + Australia native book valued at $40.00

Mystery Box 2 – ‘Vintage’

Thursday 17th August 1.30pm – 2.15pm

Allocated time 45 minutes plus 10 minutes viewing and sorting.

Horticultural materials, sundries and accessories will be provided on the commencement of the competition.

Your design will be displayed along with your business details in the Floral Display Area inside The Old Museum for public viewing.

First Prize: Dijrang Plantation (organic grown foliage) voucher valued $125

Second Prize: A top quality floristry pruning knife + Australian native flower book valued at $80.00

Third Prize: Flower School Apron + Pair of floristry scissors valued at $40

Wearable Headpiece or Hat

Monday 14th August 2016 1.30pm – 2.30pm on stage

Allocated time 60 minutes

 

You are invited to join the Fairy Queen at the annual “Garden Party” where you will create a hat or fascinator to wear.

You will need to provide all your own sundries, accessories, fresh flower & horticultural materials for this design, fresh flowers and horticultural materials must predominate. You may do prior preparation of frame work for your headpiece or hat if required but no horticultural materials can be prepared until the allocated time frame has begun.

Your design will be placed on a head provided, and displayed in the floral area inside the Old museum for the public to view.

First Prize: Swann voucher valued at $200

Second Prize: The Flower School Floristry kit valued at $118.00

Third Prize: Hendra Flower voucher valued at $50.00
